Water treatment
General
Keeping the water quality within set limits will allow you to enjoy your Spa more and increase its lifespan. It is a simple task but requires regular attention, as the chemical properties of water depend on several factors.
Poorly maintained water is a potential health risk and can also damage you spa. There is no simple formula for it, and it cannot be avoided.
For specific guidelines on maintaining the quality of the water in your spa, it is be best to contact Spa Service in the Netherlands. They can advise you on the best products for your spa.
WARNING: Never store your chemical products in the equipment space of your spa!
PH control
PH is the measuring unit for the relative acidity level or alkaline level of water, and is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. 7 is considered neutral. Above this level, the water has an alkaline condition, and below it, the water has an acid condition. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to keep the water in your spa between a value of 7.2 and 7.8. If it deviates from this range, problems will increase proportionally. A low PH value has a corrosion affect on metals within your spa. A high PH value will make minerals attach to the interior of your spa. In addition to this, the cleaning effect of products will almost be lost when PH levels are not within this range. This is why almost all test kits for spas have a measuring tool for PH levels and for the conserving detergent.
Other additives
There are many available additives for your spa. Some are needed to compensate an inbalance in the water, some help the cosmetic treatment of the water, others are meant for the feeling or smell of the water. Spa Service in the Netherlands can advise you on these additives.
Calcium hardness and Lime balance
The Calcium hardness indicates the quantity of lime in the water of your spa. The higher the value the more lime in your spa, and vice versa. Normal values range between 100 and 250 ppm (5.5° - 14° dH).
Alkaline level
PH value, disinfection and alkaline levels are closely related, and you will only obtain a proper disinfection with a stable PH value. This stable value is mostly determined by the alkaline level. The alkaline level should range between 80 and 150 ppm.
Chlorine level
How much chlorine should be in the water of your spa? First, let us elaborate on the terms total, free, and bound chlorine values. The total chlorine level shows the amount of chlorine in the water but doesn’t tell us anything about its effects. Normal level: 1.0 – 2.5 ppm. The free chlorine level shows how much active chlorine is contained in the water of your spa.
